Arnold Carlisle Otley, Age 22, Regimental No 25443, York & Lancaster Reg, Joined up in 1915, served in France 1915-16,
I have done some research to find out in his last letter dated 1917, it says …
I was suffering from weakness and the affects from Shell Shock which i got at Neuve Chapelle, Sept 1916. I belong to the 12th York & Lancaster Reg. I was operated on at the 4th Northern Hospital at Lincoln. I have not been able to do any work up until a fortnight ago, but i am doing a bit now for the Admiralty now. I have been before the medical board at “B” Towers hospital Sunderland, i was marked 6 III in March. I was in the best of good health when i joined the army, but i am a wreck now. I have had to get glasses as i am nearly blind in the left eye. I have also lost a stone in weight, through loss of blood. Letters to confirm from the Hospitals.
The postcard is in good condition and colour .
