Original WWII German Officer’s Claw Belt Buckle & Leather Belt
Circa 1939–1945

An original Second World War German Officer’s claw belt buckle complete with its original leather belt, dating from circa 1939–1945.

This classic officer’s field belt features the distinctive double-claw (open claw) buckle, a design widely worn by German Army (Heer) officers during active service. Unlike the circular brocade dress buckle worn with parade and walking-out uniforms, the claw buckle was intended for field wear, providing a secure fastening while supporting sidearms and other field equipment. German officers were generally responsible for purchasing their own uniforms and equipment, which resulted in variations in manufacturers while maintaining the standard military pattern.

A fine addition to any collection of original Second World War militaria, this set represents one of the most recognisable items of a German officer’s field equipment.

Historical Background

The officer’s claw belt was designed for everyday military service and field operations. Manufactured from high-quality leather and fitted with a robust metal claw buckle, it was worn with the service tunic and used to support a holster, map case, binoculars or other personal equipment.

German officers commonly purchased their own belts from approved military outfitters, meaning minor variations in finish and construction can be found between original wartime examples. Despite these differences, the claw buckle remained one of the standard officer’s field belt designs throughout the war.

Condition

The belt and buckle are in good original condition, displaying honest age and service wear consistent with wartime use.
