WW2 German WH Sanitäter Folding Stretcher Relic – Kurland Pocket Recovery – Battlefield Medical Equipment

An original German Wehrmacht (WH) Sanitäter folding stretcher, recovered from the infamous Courland Pocket (Kurland Kessel) battlefield area and preserved in relic condition.

This is a genuine battlefield recovery item and a rare surviving example of German military medical equipment used during the Second World War. The stretcher would have been carried and employed by Sanitäter (combat medics) and medical personnel responsible for evacuating wounded soldiers from front-line positions.

Historical Background

The Kurland Pocket, located in present-day Latvia, was the scene of some of the final and most desperate fighting on the Eastern Front. From late 1944 until Germany’s surrender in May 1945, large German forces became isolated by advancing Soviet troops and fought a series of defensive battles under increasingly difficult conditions.

Medical personnel faced immense challenges evacuating casualties across forests, marshes, and heavily contested ground, making folding stretchers such as this an essential piece of battlefield equipment.
