WW1 era French brown leather cavalry horse riding panniers saddle bags despatch rider pair
A great pair of French Cavalry brown leather pannier bags, dating from around the mid WW1-1916. Noted flaws – worn leather but great colour with age, leather still soft and reasonably supple throughout, – please see photos. Excellent condition otherwise for age , unlined, sturdy stitching with plenty of useful life in them, beautiful, supple but very tough deep brown leather, buckle fastenings, measures L14.5” x W7” x D4.5”, 7.5” between the two bags. Originally worn placed over a horse’s neck.
I have also an earlier pair of panniers from the WW1-1914 period
