WW1 18 Pounder Artillery Shell 1918 Complete and Inscribed York & Lancaster Regiment

Presented to 16th Battn York & Lancaster Regiment F.W.P

in recognition of the Patriotic Spirit which prompted the members of their War Savings Assc to invest £2000 towards the cost of the War 1914-1919

The inscribed shell-case, 1918 dated , it’s condition has a slight split to top (see photo’s), The shell itself has a un-screwable brass fuse, and is in clean condition.

The 18-pounder field gun was the standard field artillery piece of all Commonwealth armies during the First World War. The shell weighed about 8 kilograms (18.5 pounds) and had a maximum range of 8,500 metres. They could be filled with high explosive, shrapnel, poison gas, incendiary, or smoke.
