An original Second World War Ministry of Pensions King’s Badge “For Loyal Service”, complete with its original official issue box, awarded under the reign of King George VI to personnel who were honourably discharged through wounds or disablement sustained during wartime service.

Authorised in 1941, the King’s Badge was intended to be worn on civilian clothing, identifying the wearer as someone who had served their country but had been invalided out of service as a result of injuries or disability attributable to the war. Initially awarded to members of the Armed Forces, Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets, eligibility was later extended to members of the Home Guard, Civil Defence, Air Raid Precautions (ARP), Police, Fire Services and other recognised wartime organisations who were disabled through war service.

This example retains its original Ministry of Pensions issue box, the lid bearing the familiar printed instructions reminding recipients to safeguard the badge and prevent it falling into unauthorised hands. Complete boxed examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find and are highly sought after by collectors of British military and Home Front memorabilia.

The badge features the crowned Royal Cypher of King George VI (GRI) surrounded by the inscription “FOR LOYAL SERVICE”, a simple yet dignified symbol recognising sacrifice and honourable wartime service.
