Original WWII German Heer Visor Cap Eagle – Army Officer / EM & NCO Headgear Insignia
A very nice original Second World War German Army (Heer) visor cap eagle, produced for wear on German military headgear.
The eagle is the distinctive German Army national emblem, designed to be worn on the front of the Schirmmütze (visor cap). Together with the national cockade, the eagle formed the principal insignia displayed on German Army peaked caps during the WWII period.
This type of insignia was worn by personnel of the Heer (German Army) and can be found on a wide variety of wartime visor caps, including those worn by officers, NCOs and enlisted personnel, depending on the particular construction and finish.
WWII German Heer Headgear
The German Army visor cap, or Schirmmütze, was an important item of service and walking-out dress. Cap eagles were manufactured in different materials and finishes throughout the war, with examples encountered in metal, aluminium, embroidered and machine-woven forms.
Original loose insignia are particularly useful to collectors and are often found separately from the caps on which they were originally mounted.
