This beautifully presented display features an original fragment of aluminium airframe from Hawker Hurricane Mk IIA, serial Z2523, professionally mounted within a quality display frame. The relic is accompanied by historical information, making it an exceptional display piece for collectors of RAF memorabilia and military aviation history.

More than simply an aircraft fragment, this is a tangible survivor from one of the aircraft that defended Britain’s skies during the critical years of the Second World War.

The Story of Hurricane Z2523

Hawker Hurricane Z2523 was a Mk IIA built in late 1940 and delivered through No. 5 Maintenance Unit before joining No. 302 (Polish) Squadron RAF in March 1941, carrying the squadron code WX-G.

On 8 May 1941, while operating near Dungeness, Kent, Z2523 was attacked and damaged by a Messerschmitt Bf 109. The pilot, Sergeant Marian Bolesław Domała of the Polish Air Force serving with the RAF, successfully abandoned the aircraft by parachute and survived. The Hurricane was subsequently written off.

This relic originates from that historic aircraft, preserving a direct link to the courage and determination of the RAF and the many Polish pilots who continued the fight after the occupation of their homeland.

The Hawker Hurricane

Although often overshadowed by the Spitfire, the Hawker Hurricane was responsible for destroying more enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain than any other RAF fighter. Rugged, dependable and easy to repair, it became the backbone of RAF Fighter Command during the early years of the war and continued to serve with distinction in Europe, North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Far East.

Collector’s Note

Relics from identified Hawker Hurricanes with known serial numbers and operational histories are becoming increasingly scarce. Displays linked to a specific aircraft and pilot offer collectors far more than an aircraft fragment—they provide a genuine connection to the men who flew in defence of Britain during the Second World War.

Whether displayed in a private collection, aviation museum or office, this framed relic is a fitting tribute to the Hawker Hurricane and the airmen who flew one of the RAF’s greatest fighter aircraft.
