WW1 U.S. M1917 Steel Combat Helmet Shell – British Made, Early Issue Example

An original U.S. Model 1917 (M1917) steel combat helmet shell, dating to the First World War, representing an early issue example supplied to American forces.

At the time of U.S. entry into WW1, large numbers of British-made Brodie helmets were issued to the American Expeditionary Forces before full U.S. production commenced. This example is consistent with one of those British-manufactured shells, adopted and used by U.S. troops in the early stages of the war.

The helmet retains its rough textured exterior finish, typical of wartime production, designed to reduce glare and improve durability in the field.

Offered here as a shell only, the piece remains a highly collectable and displayable example of early U.S. combat headgear.
