WW1 British Helmet Shell – WW2 North Africa / Middle East Re-Issue – Desert Paint – Relic Condition
An original British helmet shell,  service during the Second World War, retaining an exceptional amount of its original desert colour paintwork to both the exterior and interior. This is a wonderful example of the British Army’s wartime practice of refurbishing and reissuing equipment for  frontline service in the North Africa and Middle East theatres.

Original service during WWII, where it was repainted in the distinctive sand-coloured finish used by British and Commonwealth forces operating in desert conditions. Remarkably, this example retains substantial original paintwork both inside and out, giving it outstanding character and strong display appeal.

The helmet remains in honest relic condition, yet survives with part of its original liner still in place together with its original chinstrap. These surviving components, combined with the extensive original paint, make this a particularly evocative example that clearly illustrates its long military service across two world wars.

British helmets accompanied soldiers throughout the campaigns in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Palestine, Iraq and the wider Middle East, where many helmets were refurbished and repainted for continued operational use. Helmets exhibiting original desert finishes are becoming increasingly sought after by collectors due to their direct association with these famous campaigns.

Today, genuine WW2 helmets with desert service are increasingly difficult to obtain, particularly those retaining such a significant amount of their original wartime finish.
