Chelsea Clock Company, founded in 1897, became the primary supplier of marine clocks and chronometers to the U.S. Navy and Maritime Commission during both World Wars. The Mark I Deck Clock was introduced in 1940, just prior to America’s entry into WWII, and was issued across the fleet—from destroyers to aircraft carriers. Its robust brass construction, precise 8-day movement, and highly legible luminous dial made it a dependable tool for naval navigation and coordination during wartime. These clocks were often mounted in wheelhouses, radio rooms, and operations centres.
The clock shows expected service wear and patination to the brass case, with some surface scratches consistent with naval use and age. Dial and glass remain intact, with some surface marks.
