Original WWII 1939 German Brandwunden Salbe Burn Wound Salve Tin
Wehrmacht Heer First Aid Medical Kit Item
An Authentic Second World War German Military Medical Collectable
An original Second World War German Wehrmacht Brandwunden Salbe (Burn Wound Salve) tin, an increasingly scarce piece of wartime military medical equipment.
This small ointment tin contained Brandwunden Salbe, a burn treatment ointment issued for the treatment of minor burns and scalds sustained during military service. Such tins were commonly carried in German Army (Heer) first aid kits, medical pouches and field medical stations, where they provided immediate treatment for burns caused by hot machinery, vehicle engines, cooking equipment, weapons and explosions.
Compact and lightweight, these tins formed part of the everyday medical supplies available to German soldiers throughout the Second World War.
Historical Background
The German Wehrmacht placed great importance on battlefield first aid, with every soldier carrying a personal field dressing while medical personnel and vehicles carried additional supplies, including antiseptics, ointments and burn treatments.
Brandwunden Salbe was intended to soothe and protect minor burns, helping to reduce discomfort while protecting damaged skin from infection until more comprehensive medical treatment became available.
Items such as this would have been found in field hospitals, aid stations, military ambulances and medical packs serving on every front of the war.

Collector’s Note
Original German military medical items are becoming increasingly difficult to source, particularly small consumable items that were normally discarded after use.
Burn salve tins such as this provide an excellent insight into the everyday medical care available to German soldiers during the war and make an ideal addition to collections of Wehrmacht medical equipment, field hospitals or military first aid displays.
Whether displayed alongside a German medical pouch, field dressing, medical instruments or other wartime equipment, this is an authentic and increasingly desirable collector’s item.
