An good original British Army issue machete, manufactured by Josh Beal of Sheffield, one of the many skilled edge-tool makers who supplied the British War Department during the Second World War. This example is dated 1943, bears the War Department Broad Arrow acceptance mark, and is complete with its correct pattern leather scabbard, also dated 1943.

Designed as a robust utility tool, the British Army machete was issued for use in dense vegetation and tropical environments where it proved indispensable for clearing jungle, cutting timber, constructing shelters and carrying out a wide variety of engineering and camp duties. It became an essential piece of equipment for British and Commonwealth troops serving overseas during the war.

Manufactured by Josh Beal of Sheffield, this machete is a fine example of British wartime craftsmanship.
