An original British Army “Outfit, First Aid, Small, For Armoured Fighting Vehicles”,  1940s, complete with a selection of its original medical contents including bandages and British Army medical scissors.

Designed specifically for use inside Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), these compact first aid outfits were carried in tanks, armoured cars and other military vehicles to provide immediate treatment for crew members until they could be evacuated to a Regimental Aid Post. The black painted steel tin was built to withstand the harsh conditions encountered during wartime service and was a standard item of British Army vehicle equipment during the final stages of the Second World War.

Historical Background

British armoured vehicle crews operated in extremely hazardous conditions where burns, blast injuries and shrapnel wounds were common. Every tank or armoured fighting vehicle was therefore equipped with a dedicated first aid outfit, allowing the crew to administer immediate treatment before casualties could be evacuated.

These kits originally contained a variety of medical supplies including field dressings, triangular bandages, shell dressings, adhesive plasters, safety pins, iodine ampoules and stretcher-bearers’ scissors. Surviving examples retaining original contents are considerably scarcer than empty tins.

Condition

The steel tin displays honest service wear consistent with its wartime use and age. The remaining contents also show expected age-related wear but are remarkably well preserved, making this an attractive and increasingly difficult-to-find collector’s piece.

Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

An Excellent Collector’s Piece

Original British Army AFV first aid outfits with surviving contents are highly sought after by collectors of WWII British militaria, armoured warfare memorabilia and military medical equipment. Whether displayed alongside a vehicle collection, in a military museum, or as part of a personal collection, this outfit offers an authentic connection to the equipment carried by British armoured crews during the closing months of the Second World War.

A genuine piece of British military history and a wonderful addition to any serious collection.
