An original Imperial German 7.7cm field gun brass shell case, dated July 1900, and associated with the famous 7.7cm Feldkanone 96 (FK96) artillery system. Highly decorated trenchart with a Dragon motif.

This is an excellent and increasingly scarce pre-First World War example, dating from the height of Imperial Germany’s military expansion and representing a fascinating piece of early German artillery history.

Historical Context:

The 7.7 cm FK 96 was introduced into German service in 1896 as the standard field gun of the Imperial German Army. Developed by Krupp, it became one of Germany’s principal artillery weapons prior to and during the early stages of the First World War.

Many FK96 guns were later modernised into the 7.7 cm FK 96 n.A. (“neuer Art” / new model), which continued to serve extensively throughout WW1.
