An 11 in x 9 in framed wreckage fragment from Battle of Britain RAF Spitfire number P9398 flown by Sgt F.W.Eley, who tragically lost his life. Shot down at 4.00pm on the 31st July 1940 by Messerschmitt  109 which was flown by Hauptman Tietzen of 4/JG51.

Spitfire crashed in flames into the sea at the end of the pier in Folkstone Harbour in Kent.

The engine and other parts were pulled out of the sea during works in the Harbour .

Items came from the Blake Hall Airscene Museum.
