Description

With materials in short supply during the war , most people could’nt afford to buy a radio to keep up with events , so the government came up with a plan to get several radio companies to produce a standard design. The initial take up was by Murphy Radio Ltd so the Utility Radio was born .Long wave broadcasts were suspended during the war so the radio only covered medium wave, and apparently the cabinets were made from cut orange boxes , but don’t know how true that is , they were plywood anyhow.

Original cost was £12 3s 4d

1944 onwards.

This example is working but needs a good aerial.
